A PluralEyes alternative for DaVinci Resolve
For years PluralEyes was the standard tool for syncing multicam footage by sound. Maxon put it into limited maintenance mode on February 1, 2023, which means no further updates and no support for newer operating systems or editing apps. If it has stopped working for you, here are the options.
Your options
| Option | Good for | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| Resolve's built-in sound sync | Short shoots, one recording per camera | Free and built in. Can struggle with many clips per camera, long recordings and multi-channel cameras. |
| Timecode | Shoots where every device shared timecode | Exact and instant, but needs timecode hardware or careful jamming on set. |
| SyncNut | Multicam shoots with many clips, separate recorders and long takes | Free during early access. Runs in the browser, nothing uploaded. DaVinci Resolve only for now. |
How SyncNut fits a Resolve workflow
- Put your clips on a timeline in Resolve, one track per camera or recorder.
- Export it as AAF with File › Export › Timeline…
- Load the AAF and your footage folder into SyncNut and click Sync.
- Import the synced AAF back with File › Import › Timeline… Your media is already linked.
There's nothing to install, so operating-system updates won't break it, and because everything runs on your computer there's no upload or file size limit.
What's different from PluralEyes
- SyncNut works from your Resolve timeline instead of a separate project, so you choose exactly which clips to sync and which track is which camera.
- It reads cameras with several audio channels and picks the useful microphones automatically.
- It currently supports DaVinci Resolve. Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro support is planned.
